LAHORE, Feb 3: Two workers were killed and 14 others injured in two roof collapse incidents in the city on Sunday, rescuers and police said.

In the first incident, an under-construction portion of a flour mill collapsed opposite Attari Darbar on Ferozepur Road, leaving two labourers dead and eight others injured.

A preliminary police inquiry showed that some construction work was in progress at a two-storey building when its roof collapsed, trapping several workers under the rubble.

Ambulances of Rescue 1122 and Edhi Foundation shifted the injured to Lahore General Hospital where 25-year-old Muhammad Tariq and 27-year-old Safdar Serwer succumbed to their wounds.

Model Town SP (Operations) Awais Malik said the top roof of a double-storey flour mills was being built when it collapsed on the roof of first storey which also caved in. He said labourers present at the top and on the ground trapped in the rubble.

The SP said a case would be registered against the mills owner under Section 322 (Punishment for qatl bis-sabab) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Four people suffered injuries after the dilapidated roof of a residential property caved in near 100 Feet Road in Sherakot.

Shahid, Rizwan and two unidentified persons were pulled out of the debris by rescuers and shifted them to Mayo Hospital.

FIRE: Valuables worth hundreds of thousands were gutted and structures were badly damaged in two fire incidents in the provincial capital on Sunday.

A huge fire broke out on the seventh flour of Aiwan-i-Iqbal on Egerton Road, burning down office accessories, appurtenance and the official record.

The administrator claimed short-circuiting caused the fire.

Civil Lines SP (Operations) Dr Farrukh Raza said the fire started at around 7:30am and was brought under control at around 10:15am.

He said the seventh storey was in possession of the AI administration and the portion remained closed most of the time.

Another blaze erupted in the poultry farm of Khalil in Hadyara, burning down dozens of chicks and valuables.

Rescue 1122 fire-fighters brought the blaze under control after hectic efforts.
