PESHAWAR, Jan 23: The website of Peshawar University Alumni Association (PUAA) was launched here on Wednesday to ensure constant contact of the former students among themselves and with the university.

“There was a lack of forum where the ex-students could be collected and this deficiency has now been removed as the website would join them like a family,” said Dr Qibla Ayaz, vice-chancellor of the University of Peshawar (UoP).

According to a UoP press release, Dr Ayaz said after inaugurating the website that he had planned to form an alumni association of former students of the university and the most appropriate title that came to mind for addressing them was “Upeshians”.

“We held a meeting in which all those in attendance supported the suggestion and hence a member of the PUAA can now be called Upeshian,” the VC said. Underlining the importance of alumni, he said that the PUAA would be a cornerstone in the UoP development. He hoped that more and more former students would register at the PUAA website: “http://www.upesh.edu.pk/alumni"_www.upesh.edu.pk/alumni.

Dr Hussain Shaheed Sohrawardi, the PUAA coordinator, said that an alumni card would also be issued to the Upeshians for visiting the university, using its facilities and enjoying cut-prices in different commercial stores in Peshawar.

He said that the PUAA would celebrate reunions of the departments and the university would support any such arrangements by the departments for their former students. — Bureau Report
