LAHORE, Jan 22: Two art shows opened at Alhamra Art Gallery, The Mall, on Tuesday. Three artists Ali Mansur, Anushka Rustomji and Zara Asghar together put on display a show of drawings titled ‘Drawing conclusions.’ The medium was pencil, charcoal and pen.
Drawing is considered an essential part of learning system when it comes to Fine Arts. Nowadays artists doing pure drawings is something rare and a treat.
Three different approaches can be seen in the drawings of three artists through their 20 or so artworks.
Ali Mansur had done small drawings, very intimate ones. Zara Asghar had drawn figure and drapery in a bold manner. Anushka Rustomji drawings had a delicacy about them with motifs from miniature paintings.
The other exhibition consisted of black and white photographs by a British photographer, William Titley. The exhibition was quite informative and interesting since the artist had drawn a comparison between Lahore and Chandigarh -- 100 photographs were of Chandigarh and as many of Lahore.
The important aspect of the exhibition is that the photographs displayed in the art show were based on life style, buildings and over all cultural life of Lahore and Chandigarh. Three students from Beaconhouse National University’s fine arts department -- Amna, Tayyab and Ghulam -- curated the exhibition at Alhamra Art Gallery. These students also went to the UK under a British Council programme and attended workshops with William Titley.
