RAWALPINDI, Nov 26: The city police officer on Monday suspended the SHO New Town after a probe found him guilty of beating a traffic warden.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the warden intercepted the SHO after spotting him using a mobile phone while driving.

The SHO was not in police uniform at the time.

DSP Shoaib Aqeel said  SHO Ijaz Hussain Shah was suspended after the chief minister took notice of the incident.

Khurram Nazir, the warden, was deployed on a VVIP route duty on Rawal Road during the arrival of VVIPs for the D-8 summit in Islamabad.

He signaled a car to stop after spotting its driver talking on cellphone.

When the driver ignored the signal, the warden chased the car on his motorbike. When the car reached New Town police station, the warden followed the driver into the building. However, a group of policemen pounced on him inside.

The warden was beaten until Khan Zaman, DSP traffic, came to his rescue.

When contacted, Khurram Nazir added: “I was humiliated in uniform and punched and slapped by the SHO.” —Staff Reporter
