RAWALPINDI, Nov 13: Unemployment drove a man to commit suicide in Allahabad on Tuesday, police said.

Nayyar Abbas, 28, was found hanging with a telephone cable by his sister, Ms Abida, who had gone to the roof at 12:30 pm to dry clothes in the sun.

She was worried when she found the door locked and called her elder sister. Both sisters then sent their nephew to the neighbour’s roof, where he (nephew) started crying for help, when he saw his uncle hanging on the wire.

Mukhtar Bibi, the elder sister of the victim, who lived with her younger sisters and only brother, said in her statement that they (the two sisters) brought down their brother and shifted him to the District Headquarters Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

She said she had been residing with her two sisters and brother for the past 13 years. She informed that her younger brother had been unemployed for a long time and that seemed to be the reason behind the suicide.

According to the police investigating officer, no suicide note was found.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead allegedly by his younger brother over a domestic issue in Kahuta area on Tuesday, police said.

Shamraiz Mehmood, 38, was at his house when his brother, Saqib Mehmood, exchanged hot words with him over a domestic issue. While they were quarrelling, the younger brother pulled out his pistol and fired at Shamraiz.

He was shifted to Rawalpindi hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

The alleged killer, Saqib Mehmood, who had been disowned by his parents, managed to escape from the scene, the police investigating officer said. —Staff Reporter
