IHC judge resigns

ISLAMABAD, Nov 6: Justice Mohammad Azim Khan Afridi, the additional judge of Islamabad High Court (IHC), on Tuesday submitted his resignation.

After failing to get confirmation by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), he tried to fight his case and filed a petition in the high court but his lawyers withdrew from the case.

The JCP in its October 22 meeting while refusing to confirm his services as the IHC judge recommended repatriating him to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as sessions judge. He was elevated to the IHC in November last year.

In his resignation letter addressed to the IHC registrar, Justice Mohammad Azim Khan Afridi said that after corruption charges he thought it inappropriate to hold public office.

“Although there is not one iota of truth in these charges, I don’t think myself eligible for joining the KP judicial service as sessions judge,” he said in his letter.

He alleged that the Islamabad High Court had not treated his petition in a proper manner. “Two lawyers have expressed inability to argue my case so far,” he added.

“I have now requested the secretary general IHC bar to arrange a lawyer”, the letter added.

Justice Afridi also asked the IHC registrar to send a request to registrar Peshawar High Court (his parent department) for necessary documentation for his retirement and issuance of pension.
