LAHORE, Oct 10: Former MNA Ashiq Diyal died here on Wednesday. He was about 60.

Diyal had sustained severe injuries in a road accident on Canal Road last month.

His funeral prayers will be held in his border area village, Diyal, at 9am on Thursday (today).

Diyal had a strong following in his constituency NA-130 comprising mostly border area villages.

He was first elected MNA in 1990 from Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) platform defeating former caretaker prime minister Malik Meraj Khalid of the People’s Democratic Alliance. He reached the lower house again in 1997 as an independent candidate after defeating PML-N’s Shaukat Ali.

He fought the last election (2008) on PML-Q ticket, but lost to PPP’s Samina Khalid Ghurki.
