VEHARI, Oct 2: Local farmers staged a demonstration to protest disconnection of power supply to their tubewells here on Tuesday in front of Mepco offices.
A number of farmers belonging to even far-flung area of the district gathered in front of Mepco offices on the call of the Pakistan Kissan Ittehad.
They blocked Multan Road for three hours and staged a sit-in in front of Mepco offices where they shouted slogans against the officials concerned for disconnecting power supply to their tubewells.
Farmers’ leaders Iftikhar Chaudhry and Akram Kamboh in their speeches on the occasion said their protest would continue till the restoration of power supply to tubewells.
They rapped Mepco for issuing last-month bills to them with extra units.
The farmers had announced they would not pay the bills unless these were rectified. They later dispersed after holding a dialogue with Mepco EXEN Mohammad Sharif.
