SARGODHA, Aug 22: Eight of a family were gunned down and six injured in Chak 6/NB near Bhalwal, some 30 kilometres from here, early on Tuesday morning over a family feud.

Landlord Riaz Warraich contracted love marriage with his relative Seema in Naugrain village in Wazirabad tehsil of Gujranwala district 22 years ago.

Seema’s brother Munawar harboured a grudge against the couple. Riaz later moved to Chak 6/NB, Jalle Wala, Bhalwal. After sometime, Munawar occupied 60-acre agricultural land owned by Riaz in Wazirabad and litigation ensued. The case is currently pending in the Lahore High Court.

On Aug 21 morning, Munawar and his nine accomplices allegedly attacked Riaz’s house in Chak 6/NB and gunned down Riaz, his sons Sufyan, Imran and Adnan, his daughter Zubila, brother Anwar, brother’s wife Dilnaaz and niece Iqra. Riaz’s wife Seema, daughters Sadia and Rahila, his brother’s sons Ikram and Nabeel and daughter Afshan were injured in the attack.

Bhalwal’s Sadar police reached the scene and shifted the injured and the dead to tehsil headquarters hospital. All injured were later referred to the district headquarters hospital, where their condition was said to be critical.
