LAHORE, Aug 9: Punjab wants power distribution rights for provinces to use savings at will.

According to official sources on Thursday, Punjab has been making this demand for long and would continue to do so till the transfer of power distribution rights to provinces.

They said right now the federal government was distributing power to provinces without giving them the benefit of savings. If provinces were given the distribution rights, they could provide some relief to people by transferring them the savings, they said.

They said the demand included rights to plug losses and recovery. “Punjab is contributing a lot to meeting the power shortage in the country at the moment, and it should be given the right to use the savings,” a senior official said.
