LAHORE, Aug 4: Commissioner Jawad Rafique Malik and DCO Noor-ul-Amin Mengal visited various parts of the city, mainly low lying areas, on Saturday.

Mr Malik visited Anarkali, Neela Gunbad, GPO Chowk, Lakshmi Chowk, Outfall Road, Misri Shah and some other areas and monitored Wasa’s operational activities to drain out the rainwater. He reached the central control room of the Wasa and monitored work there. He also visited some water disposal stations.

During his visit to various localities, he told the media that draining out water after heavy rains always took some time.

The DCO visited Garhi Shahu, Lakshmi Chowk, Davies Road, Jail Road Underpass, Centre Point, Johar Town, Ek Moria Pul and Bhati Gate. He told Wasa authorities to increase the number of machines/equipment and manpower draining out water in low lying areas.

OPEN COURT: Commissioner Jawad Rafique Malik on Saturday directed Wasa and PHA officials to improve their performance in Nishtar Town.

Speaking at an open court, he said he would not tolerate those failing to solve the public problems relating to water and sanitation in the city. On a complaint, the commissioner directed the Nishtar Town administrator to get the boundary wall of the Kot Mela Ram’s graveyard constructed at the earliest. He also directed the officials to ensure fair price shops in Township.

DIRECTIVE: DCO Noor-ul-Amin Mengal on Saturday expressed his displeasure with the increasing prices of tomatoes in the open market as well as Ramazan bazaars and directed market committee officials to take action against those hoarding tomatoes in cold storages.

Presiding over a meeting on prices at Ramazan bazaars and open market, he told the officials to ensure availability of tomatoes and other commodities in these bazaars on official rates.

WASA: Entire Wasa field staff remained busy in draining out rainwater after first heavy rain of the season in the city on Saturday.

According to a press release, Wasa Managing Director Mian Abdullah led the rainwater drainage operation in areas like Nakhuda Chowk, Lakshmi Chowk, Misri Shah, Akbar Road, Aziz Road, Shadbagh, Mahmood Booti and Gulshan-i-Ravi.
