Five killed in Swat incidents

MINGORA, July 30: Five people were killed in different incidents in various localities of Swat valley on Monday.

In the first incident occurred in Gojarabad area of Mingora, unknown assailants slit the throat of Syed Akbar after Tarveeh prayers. Police said the deceased hailed from Miramshah, North Waziristan and was presently residing in Gojatabad, Rahimabad. The police registered report against unknown assailants on the complaint of his colleague, Abdullah Jan, and started investigation.

In the second incident, Akhtar Ali gunned down his wife in Ghaligi area of Bari Kot tehsil. Another accused Shahid grabbed Shazia and Akhtar opened fire on her. The motive behind the killing was stated to be a family dispute. The police arrested both the accused.

In Kokarai area a labourer was buried alive after a wall fell on him.  Locals retrieved the body of Ijaz from the rubble.

Bodies of a man and his sister were recovered from Swat River. The two had drowned in the river the other day while filling pots in Bahrain area.—Correspondent

Meat sellers warned

LAKKI MARWAT, July 30: Veterinary health officer Dr Mubarak has said that all out efforts would be made to ensure selling of meat in the local market on prices fixed by the district administration.

Presiding over a meeting here at his office on Monday, he said butchers had been directed to sell quality meat in the market. He said those found involved in selling meat of low quality or of sick animals would face strict legal action.

He added that hygienic conditions in and around the outlets of butchers would also be ensured.

Meanwhile, the veterinary health officer paid surprise inspection visits to several bazaars to check the quality of meat. He went to the shops of butchers and asked them to avoid selling of low quality meat.—Correspondent

Man drowns in Zebi dam

KARAK, July 30: A young man drowned in Zebi dam here on Monday. Local divers said two cousins Junaid Khan and Saqib Ghani, residents of Hakeemkhel area of Karak tehsil, drowned while swimming in the dam.

The divers immediately jumped into the water and rescued Saqib Ghani, while his cousin Junaid Khan drowned. His body was fished out after hectic efforts.

Meanwhile, Karak DCO Mohammad Zubair under section 144 banned bathing and swimming in water reservoirs across the district. He directed the police to take steps to stop the youngsters from taking bath in the dams.

Meanwhile, two people were seriously injured when two groups clashed over a land dispute in Ahmadwala area of Takht-i-Nusrati. They were shifted to hospital. On the other hand, a local religious scholar and former nazim of union council Jandri Maulana Ubaidullah died after protracted illness on Monday. He was 80.—Correspondent

Man killed over money dispute

SWABI, July 30: A man was killed over money dispute here on Monday, said the police.

The incident occurred in the Topi city where Mohammad Illyas Khan of the city area after exchanging hot words with Mohammad Ali of the same locality over a money dispute started firing at Mr Ali killing him on the spot. The city police have registered an FIR and started investigations.—Correspondent

PTI plans drive against outages

PESHAWAR, July 30: Pakistan Tehrek-i-Insaf will start an organised campaign against excessive power outages in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A meeting of the party scheduled for Aug 2 will decide future line of action in this regard.

Addressing at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, the PTI provincial leader Asad Qaiser informed that the province was facing 15 to 18 hours unscheduled loadshedding.

Flanked by party leaders and activists, he accused the ANP government of failing to launch a mega project to address the growing energy demand. In the prevailing situation, he added the trade and economic activities had adversely affected, but the rulers were least bothered to pay attention to the issue. Mr Qaisar said ANP-led government had not fulfilled its commitment to provide 100 free electricity units to every household and address the other key issues confronting the province.—Bureau Report

48 outlaws arrested

PESHAWAR, July 30: District police on Monday arrested 48 outlaws involved in various crimes, including one absconder, and seized arms and ammunition and drugs from them.

A police spokesman said that on the directives of SSP Peshawar, the Chamkani police conducted raids against criminals and miscreants and arrested 48 outlaws, including one absconder Wasim.

The police teams also confiscated a gun, 3,832 bullets, three AK-47 rifles, one M-16 rifle, 3kg charas, 600 grams of opium and two bottles of liquor.—APP
