LAHORE, July 15: An exhibition of photographs by people from diversified backgrounds such as engineers, doctors, teachers and self taught artistes opened at Nairang Art Gallery on Sunday.
Noted short story writer Intizar Hussain inaugurated the exhibition.
Mr Hussain encouraged the artistes and held their work in high esteem. He said that the photographs on display were rich reflections of different parts of the country which have been beautifully exposed by the artists.
The exhibition is based on different memories artistes captured through the camera lens. To the artists, memories are precious commodities. They need to be nurtured, to be taken care of and to be preserved, just as Nature preserves its assets.
The photographs depict Nature, life at general, birds, monuments, faces, night beauty and many other such scenes.
The photographs show that beauty is in the darkest of night, in the burning sun, in the morning dew covering grass and fragrant flowers, from the mushrooms growing silently in the marshy areas to the water sprouting with elegance from the mountain hills, from the baby flower to the thousand-year old trees, from the smiles of babies to the wrinkled human face.
There is something to behold in everything -- in silent prayers, in hidden dreams, in glorifying memories and in the hardships and struggles of many years.
To the artistes, photography is an assimilation of memories and a "freezing" of time. Photographs are not just exhibitions of colour, but also an expression of thought and emotion.
They help you go back in time to a place you most cherished. They help you remember those memories which made you smile. A determined, creative and focused photographer is a wizard who can create magic with his work and leave you mesmerized.c2 The exhibition is an effort by 22 artists wherein 107 or so photographs are on display.
The exhibition will go on till July 20.
