LAHORE, July 7: Dark clouds that covered the skyline in Lahore on Saturday morning passed without giving the much desired rain but left behind pleasant weather to the utter relief of people.

The deciding factor was the strong pleasant wind that accompanied the clouds and continued to blow throughout the day, lessening the impact of enhanced humidity which becomes unbearable in hot weather conditions.

The day temperatures dropped from Friday’s 41 degrees Celsius to 36 degrees Celsius. Humidity was 68 per cent in the morning and 49 per cent in the evening.

According to the Met Office it remained hot and humid in most parts of the country. But still some areas in the north and northern Punjab did receive their first monsoon rain because of a westerly wave and moderate moist current from the Arabian Sea which is penetrating into upper parts of the country up to 5,000 feet.

Saidu Sharif received 53mm of rain, Jhelum 47mm, Mangla 43mm, Islamabad Z/P 29mm, Murree 26mm, Gujranwala 18mm, Sialkot airport 17mm, Muzaffarabad 13mm, Kakul 11mm, Kotli, Barkhan, Kohat and Sialkot Cantt 8mm (each), Rawalakot and Garhi Dupatta 2mm (each) and Dir received 1mm rain.

The Met Office forecast dust thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, central and northern Punjab and Kashmir in the next 24 hours. Isolated dust thunderstorm/rain was expected over south Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.
