RAWALPINDI, July 3: In a bid to discourage commission culture, Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) has introduced a new system in which work orders to successful contractors will be dispatched to their homes.

Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa told Dawn that the step was taken after he received repeated complaints against some TMA officials who allegedly got commission from the contractors before issuing them work orders of uplift schemes.

“Under the new system, Town Municipal Officer (TMO) will directly send the work orders to the homes of the successful bidders through post soon after the open bidding for the award of contract of development schemes is held,” he explained.

He further said that he had also launched inquiry into incidents of alleged corruption against TMA officials.

On Tuesday, RTMA issued work orders of 147 schemes worth Rs100 million in different parts of the city and 30 successful contractors in an open auction held in the RTMA offices on June 28, will receive the same at their homes.

Jappa claimed the RTMA had formed special teams to check the quality of material to be used in the construction work and warned the contractors using sub-standard materials would be blacklisted.
