PESHAWAR, May 31: The Cecos University has decided to introduce PhD programmes in different disciplines after fulfilling the criteria, set by Higher Education Commission (HEC) for the purpose.

The academic council of the university that met here on Thursday with Vice-chancellor Dr Riaz Khattak in the chair decided to introduce PhD programmes in the subjects of engineering, management and computer science after fulfillment of the criteria of HEC regarding availability of faculty and equipment.

In addition, an intensive and quality-specific procedure for MSc research proposal evaluation, thesis evaluation and undergraduate projects execution was approved.

The meeting also made decisions about provision of facilities, incentives and financial support to those faculty members and laboratory engineers, who were pursuing M.S and PhD studies in other universities.

The academic council was also updated about the financial support extended to faculty members for publication of research papers in national and international journals and attending conferences.

The meeting approved refined and updated version of various courses in line with HEC for departments of electrical and civil engineering. It also approved new M.S programme in engineering management, urban planning and applied mathematics.

The chairman of the council thanked all the members for their constructive input, particularly academic adviser Talat Khurshid, Dr Farzad Ali Jan and Prof Sardar.

The vice-chancellor presented a detailed account of the progress report regarding important policy matters and measures taken about various developmental and non-developmental academic and research activities of the university.
