LAHORE, May 12: Governor Sardar Latif Khosa has said Pakistan will take decision on resumption of Nato forces’ supplies as an independent‚ responsible and sovereign nation.

Talking to newsmen after convocation of the King Edward Medical University on Saturday, he said the country’s interest would not be compromised on this important issue.

“I can oust the unconstitutional Punjab government by using my constitutional authority,” Mr Khosa said, adding that he could destabilise the Punjab government by merely refusing to sign summaries of various schemes.

He said a treason case would be registered against the Sharifs after the conclusion of Mehran Bank scam.

“President Asif Zardari allowed the PML-N to form a government in Punjab. In fact, Zardari gave the Punjab government to the Sharifs as alms,” Mr Khosa said.

He said it was Shahbaz Sharif who backtracked on his promises he made in the energy conference, instead of the PPP. Shahbaz Sharif should avoid taking part in violent protests against loadshedding, he said.

Earlier, he congratulated the medical students for winning top positions. “I am happy to see the young successful doctors and the postgraduates and their parents who worked day and night to achieve these prestigious degrees,” he said.

The governor said acquiring degree was not enough but the fresh graduates should come up to the expectations of the poor patients by offering their services and expertise.

KEMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asad Aslam said the varsity was the oldest medical institution in the country. “It got its rightful status of a university in 2006 after a long journey and today its graduates are serving the ailing humanity with best clinical skills all over the world.

“Our graduates are serving in more than 250 leading hospitals of the USA and the UK and have proved to be the best ambassadors of Pakistan and a big source of foreign exchange for the country,” Dr Asad said.

He said the KEMU was the only medical university which had the largest faculty and six hospitals attached to it. It had produced 148 research papers, 16 of which were published in international journals, he said.

Later, the governor distributed medals and awards among the 13 position-holding students.

A graduate, Anum Afsar got five gold medals and four silver medals, Areeba Waseem (one gold and one silver medals), Anum Majid (two gold and one silver medals), Anum Kamran (three silver medals), Bushra Riaz (one gold and one silver medals), Remlah Ghazanfor (three gold and one silver medals) and Maryam Hameed (one gold and three silver medals).
