LAHORE: Four athletes from Pakistan will be taking part in the Asian Grand Prix Series being held in Thailand from May 8-14.

Sprinter Liaquat Ali, Farhan Ahmed and Rabia Ashiq and Zeenat Parveen were picked by the Athletic Federation of Pakistan (AFP).

"The athletes were chosen by the Asian Athletics Association based on their performance in the national events in Pakistan," said Secretary of AFP, Mohammad Khalid Mahmood.

He said Ali from Army will take part in 100m, Ahmed from Wapda in 800m,Rabia Ashiq (Wapda) in 800m and Zeenat Parveen in shot put.

"It is a big honour for Pakistan that the Asian body has selected our athletes for the premier events," he said adding that the selection was made on the basis of their performance in national events.

The first leg of the grand prix will take place on May 8 at Bangkok, second on May 11 at Kanchananburi and third on May 14 at Chonburi.

Khalid said the participation of Pakistani athletes will boost their confidence and by this way they will be able to perform better in coming international and national events.
