KARACHI: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday claimed that target killings have ended in Karachi but extortion lingers, and operation has started against the extortion mafia, DawnNews reported.

Rehman Malik claimed that 103 extortionists have been arrested during operation in different areas of Karachi and that the citizens would witness the action from today.

Moreover he said that the crime rate has risen as there is a shortage of policemen deployed, and their strength would be increased shortly.

He added that he had come to Karachi to provide relief to the citizens, on the instructions of President Asif Ali Zardari.

The interior minister also said that the concerns shared by the President and MQM chief Altaf Hussain, over the extortion mafia, are genuine and that the PPP, MQM and ANP are not sheltering the extortionists, in-fact all political parties are against it.
