BANNU/GHALANAI, Jan 26: One soldier was killed and another wounded early on Thursday in a militant attack in FR Bannu.

A group of militants stormed a Frontier Constabulary (FC) checkpost near Baran dam in FR Bannu and used heavy and light weapons, including missiles and rockets.

The attack killed FC soldier Saleem Afridi and injured another Owalyar Khan, who was taken to Combined Military Hospital in Bannu.

Funeral prayers of the dead were offered at FC Lines in Bannu. Military officials showed up in large numbers.

In another incident, militants attacked a security forces’ checkpost with rockets, small and heavy weapons in Haleemzai tehsil of Mohmand Agency early on Thursday.

However, no damage to human life was reported.

The checkpost manned by Levies personnel checkpost came under attack at 2:00am.

Soon after the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and began search for attackers. They also targeted militant hideouts. TTP claimed responsibility for the attack. — Dawn Report
