QUETTA: The Quetta valley and northern Balochistan received snow on Saturday, disrupting life in these areas.

The provincial capital saw its first snowfall after four years. An eight-inch layer of snow blanketed most city areas.

The snowfall started at around 10am and continued incessantly late into the night.

Kalat, Ziarat, Mastung, Surab, Mangochar, Pishin, Tooba Achakzai, Tooba Kakari, Mehtanzai, Khanozai, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah and Muslim Bagh also received snow. Some of these areas received over one foot of snow, suspending traffic.

People rushed to picnic points, including Hanna lake, to enjoy the weather.

The snowfall caused suspension of electricity supply in several parts of the province, including Quetta.

The road leading to Afghanistan was closed near the Khojak Pass. Several vehicles were stranded near Kalat and Mangochar.
