LARKANA: Local police are planning to introduce various measures for curbing crime rate in the city, SSP Larkana Aitzaz Ahmed Goraya said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a reception of Larkana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Goraya said owners of estate agencies would be bound to get clearance certificate from police before selling, purchasing or hiring any property.

Biometrics system will be introduced for checking attendance of police officers and other staff, while strict checks at all 21 entry points in the city would be strengthened to curb crimes, he said.

Hopefully by next week, a drive against unregistered vehicles will be launched, particularly those moving without proper number plates.

A computerised record of private night watchmen shall be prepared to keep eye on their movements he said and disclosed that within a month's time people could post their complaints and suggestions through e-mails. This sort of connection between police and people would help in building confidence in police, the SSP said. Policing without community participation will have no meaningful impact.

LCCI President Khair Mohammed Shaikh and chief of its law and order sub-committee Aslam Shaikh pointed towards traffic congestions and illegal wagon and bus stands.
