LAHORE, Dec 7: Robbers on Wednesday shot dead a security guard and injured three others, including two policemen, after looting a cash van on Raiwind Road.

The van was carrying salaries of employees of a cotton factory located on Raiwind Road.

Witnesses and police said four robbers looted Rs600,000 and opened fire when van security guards put up resistance. They later fled on two motorbikes with the looted money. Dawn

Sadar Division SP Shoaib Janbaz told that security guard Awal Khan of Attok district succumbed to his wounds at a hospital, while the condition of his co-worker Muhammad Aslam was said to be stable. He said Mujahid Squad personnel Adeel and Amir, who were patrolling Raiwind Road, chased the fleeing robbers and intercepted them at a distance of two kilometres from the crime scene. The criminals opened fire and the policemen retaliated. Both policemen were injured and the robbers fled.

He said the condition of the two policemen was said to be stable. He said five police teams had been formed to trace the criminals.

ACCIDENTS: A security guard and a middle aged man died in road accidents in the city on Tuesday.

Chuhng police said security guard Nadeem Masih of Wasanpura was going to meet his relatives when his motorcycle collided with a wall owing to a technical fault. He was rushed to a hospital with multiple head injuries where he died.

Badami Bagh police said an unknown man was crushed to death by a car on Khokhar Road. His body was shifted to the city morgue. — Staff Reporter
