Three dacoits arrested

NOWSHERA, Nov 28: The police claimed on Monday to have arrested three alleged dacoits and recovered stolen items from their possession.

The Pabbi police station SHO Jan Akbar said the dacoits had forcibly entered the house of Raees Khan Khattak in the small hours of Monday and locked the family members in a room before decamping with five tola gold ornaments and one repeater gun.

The police arrested an accused Zia Mohammad, resident Saleh Khana, on suspicion of involvement in the case. During initial interrogation, the accused admitted involvement in the robbery and disclosed the names of his accomplices. After which the police arrested Ali Khan and Khan Der Sher, residents of Shaike village.—Correspondent

Proposed varsity in Karak

KARAK, Nov 28: Chairman District Development Advisory Committee and provincial Minister Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel has said the proposed Karak University will prove a unique gift of the present government for the students of this backward area.

This he said while presiding over a meeting held on Monday to select a feasible site for establishing the university, starting temporary classes, hostel arrangements and other related issues. He said all decisions regarding big projects would be taken with consensus.

MNA Mufti Ajmal, DCO Mohammad Zubir, EDO education Haziq ur Rehman, DOR Hafiz Ullah and others attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed the temporary arrangements to start the university and identified the revenue academy, district complex and postgraduate college Karak to start classes there.—Correspondent

SCCI for more relief

PESHAWAR, Nov 28: The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has demanded of the federal government to extend the fiscal relief package for one more year to help the war-affected businessmen of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The SCCI president Afan Aziz, in a press release issued here on Monday, said “negative image of the province combined with the stern attitude of banks towards lending has led to downward growth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”

The prime minister’s package, he added, had helped halted the negative growth trend to an extent. The situation, he said, could deteriorate if the government did not take serious measures to curb the negative growth trend.—Bureau Report

PHC registrar replaced

PESHAWAR, Nov 28: The Peshawar High Court on Monday ordered the replacement of the court’s registrar Syed Mussadiq Hussain Gilani by posting him as officer on special duty (OSD).

According to a notification issued here on Monday, a presiding officer of the accountability court, Subhan Sher, has been posted as the registrar of PHC. Mr Subhan Sher has been repatriated back to the high court by the federal government.—Bureau Report

Probe into Nato attack sought

PESHAWAR, Nov 28: The All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) has condemned the shelling by Nato forces on Pakistani checkposts, and described it as direct attack on the country. It demanded of the government to seek probe into the matter through the United Nations and make its findings public.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday the APML member of the women wing Ayesha Gulalai claimed the former government of Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf was far better than the incumbent one because the sitting rulers were unable to open mouth against the US.

Flanked by party’s other leaders she condemned the Nato forces for killing Pakistani troops in Mohmand.—Bureau Report

Sectarian harmony urged

PESHAWAR, Nov 28: The IGP Mohammad Akbar Khan Hoti has said the situation demanded of us to maintain unity, sectarian harmony and brotherhood in our ranks and give top priority to the solidarity and integrity of the country.

He said keeping in view the prevailing situation foolproof security arrangements had been made for peaceful observance of Muharram throughout the province particularly in the provincial metropolis.

This he said while talking to a 5-member delegation of Imamia Jirga which called on him here on Monday. The jirga was led by its vice-president Maj-Gen (retd) AR Malik.

The police chief pointed out that being a metropolitan city of the province special security measures had been adopted for peaceful observance in Peshawar.—Bureau Report
