MIRPURKHAS Nov 23: Police have foiled an attempt to forcibly marry a 17- year-old girl to a 50-year-old man in Ismail Kumbhar village, Sindhri taluka, late on Tuesday night.

On a complaint a police team, led by DSP Sindhri Ayub Dars, raided the village and took into custody Adeeba Kumbhar, 17, daughter of Abdul Majeed Kumbhar. However, the would-be groom Abdul Salam Kumbhar managed to escape.

On Wednesday, police produced the girl in the court of Judicial Magistrate-II, Mirpurkhas, where she stated that her father and other relatives were forcing her to marry Abdul Salam against her will.

The court allowed her to go with her father and relatives after a warning to her father and a written surety

that she would be allowed to marry according to her free will. She would also be given complete protection in the meantime.
