PESHAWAR, July 30: An accountability court convicted a customs inspector, Abdul Jabbar, in a corruption reference and sentenced him to two-and-a-half year imprisonment with fine of Rs2.5 million.

The accused was arrested after his conviction and was sent to Peshawar Central Prison.

The accused was charged by National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, of possessing assets of Rs7 million, disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Meanwhile, another accountability court presided over by Mr Afsar Shah convicted two officials of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited including an assistant manager after they were found guilty of misappropriating bank money and sentenced them to two years rigorous imprisonment each with fine of Rs5 million each.

Both the officials -- assistant manager Wazir Ali and computer data operator Naimatullah -- were functionaries of the bank at Dera Ismail Khan.
