LAHORE, July 27: The University of Engineering and Technology on Wednesday got registered an FIR against five alleged culprits involved in leaking out the entrance test question paper for admission to engineering institutions in Punjab.

The Gujjarpura police arrested UET naib qasid Muhammad Anees, lab technician Ashraf, internet café owner on Raiwind Road Shujauddin Zaidi, student Ahsan and Gujranwala teacher Prof Iftikhar.

The FIR was got registered by UET Security Officer Col Farooq (retired).

The question paper leakage accused were identified by a specially constituted Chief Minister’s technical team comprising University of Health Sciences controller of examinations Dr Junaid S Khan, Punjab Board of Technical Education controller of examinations Prof Muhammad Tariq, PITB joint director Faisal Shahzad and Anti-Corruption Deputy Director (technical) Sheikh Irfan Ali.

It is learnt that naib qasid Anees was a member of the printing press team deputed to print the entrance test question paper. The case has been referred to the Anti-Corruption Establishment.

ICS: Meanwhile, the chief minister asked the same technical team to visit the Institute of Communication Studies, Punjab University, and probe the incident of leakage of the entrance test question paper for admission to M.Phil class 2011.The CM’s committee along with the Punjab University’s internal probe committee visited the institute and met the director and acting director.A committee member told Dawn they found that the leaked out question paper was not given to students.

He said the committee was, however, trying to know how the question paper was leaked out that led to its changing at the eleventh hour.

He said ICS director Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz informed the committee that he had handed over the entrance test question papers to acting director Dr Afirah Hamid in sealed envelopes.

He said that it was the responsibility of Dr Hamid to keep the question papers in safe custody and hold the entrance test in a transparent manner.

The committee member said the committee would also inquire from female teachers, who had prepared the question papers and then gone on ex-Pakistan leave.
