Man killed in accident

CHAKWAL, May 13: A teacher was killed when his motorcycle was hit by a truck near Bhochal village of tehsil Kallar Kahar on Friday.

Mohammad Taimoor, resident of Bhal village was going to Government Higher Secondary School Kallar Kahar on his motorcycle. When he was passing through Bhochal village, a truck coming from the opposite side hit him. He was rushed to the DHQ Hospital with critical injuries. Later, he was referred to a Rawalpindi hospital but he died on the way. The truck driver managed to escape. The police registered a case against the driver and took the truck in custody. — A Correspondent

TAXILA, May 13: A person was killed when his Suzuki pick-up rammed into a parked trailer near Brahma interchange on Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) on Friday.

The motorway police sources said that the victim later identified as Nazar Gull was going to Peshawar on his Suzuki pick-up (RIS-1327). As he reached Brahma interchange, his vehicle rammed into a parked trailer. Resultantly, he received critical injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to injuries. Wah Cantonment police registered a case and started further investigation.— Correspondent

Security put on high alert

RAWALPINDI, May 13: Security in Rawalpindi and Islamabad has been put on high alert after the intelligence reports on Friday that an explosive laden vehicle has left Dara Adam Khail, official sources said.

Security of all sensitive installations and police stations and government building across the twin cities have been beefed up.

A senior police officer confirmed that the city have been put on high alert amid fear of terrorist attack.

Extra police have been deployed in the city and random search of vehicles had been started by the police.

However, after the blasts in Shabqadar and Charsadda, the capital administration has deployed extra police force at all the important locations in the city.

A senior police officer said they had detailed police commandoes at sensitive installations and important buildings besides constituting special patrolling teams at each police station level.

Sniffer dogs were also deployed at the entry and exit points of the capital for effective checking of vehicles. —Staff Reporter

Load management plan

TAXILA, May 13: The local administration of Wapda has been asked to strictly follow the load management plan in rural and urban areas so that no public agitation may erupt in the wake of unscheduled loadshedding.

Assistant Commissioner Arif Raheem said this while chairing a load management committee meeting at TMA Taxila on Friday. The meeting was attended by representatives of Wapda, traders’ community, social and welfare organisations and PML-N local office bearers.

He said that prolonged and unscheduled loadshedding had increased frustration among the masses and they had become violent and some unpleasant incidents had also been reported. He said on the special directives of the Punjab government, tehsil load management committees were being formed to finalise electricity conservation plan for their respective areas.

He gave instructions to the authorities concerned that use of force should be avoided particularly to control protests against loadshedding. He said that the elected representatives must play their role to take the masses into confidence about the energy crisis in the country.— Correspondent

Dacoits have a field day

TAXILA, May 13: The dacoits have a field day in Wah Cantonment as five incidents of theft and robbery have occurred in the area and the people have been deprived of cash and valuables worth millions of rupees.

In the first incident, five armed men entered into the house of Umer Gull, a senior Wapda official in Satellite Town and held the inmates hostage on gunpoint. Later, they locked the family in a room and took away a gun, a pistol, cash, 20-tola gold ornaments and other valuables.

In the second incident, Syed Nazeer Hussain and his family were looted in Officers’ Colony when they were going in a car. Two young men riding a motorcycle intercepted the car and on pistol point snatched cash, mobile phones and gold ornaments from them.

In the third incident in the same locality, two young men deprived Ms Sabtain of gold ornaments in a broad daylight robbery when she was returning home from the nearby school.

Meanwhile, two general stores namely Pakistan General Store on Qabiristan Road and Jameel General Store on Munir Road were looted by armed dacoits. — Correspondent

House looted

ATTOCK, May 13: Three armed robbers looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from a house in the limit of Hazro police station.

The police sources said on Friday that Muhammad Naseem of Eidgah locality reported to the police that three unknown armed persons entered into his house and looted Rs200,000, jewellery and other valuables on gunpoint. The police registered a case and started investigation. — Correspondent

Prices fixed

RAWALPINDI, May 13: The district price control committee has fixed the prices of edible items, except meat, for implementation from May 16 (Monday).

The committee at a meeting presided over by DCO Saqib Zafar decided that the prices of meat would be fixed within two days after reviewing the market situation.

The meat dealers and butchers representatives told the meeting that they were getting goat and sheep at Rs480 per kg and it was difficult for them to sell mutton and beef below Rs500 per kg and Rs320 per kg. They said the committee should survey the market before fixing the prices.

The price of Daal Chaana was fixed at Rs62 per kg, Daal Masoor at Rs88-Rs98 per kg, Daal Maash Rs145 per kg, Karam Daal Mash at Rs136 per kg, Basmati rice Rs90-Rs100 per kg and rice Rs42-Rs48 per kg.

The committee allowed shopkeepers to charge Rs2 per kg extra against the price of retail market for vegetable oil and Rs3 per kg extra for sugar. — A Reporter

Sculpture workshop

ISLAMABAD, May 13: Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) will hold a five-day sculpture workshop from May 17 to 22.

The workshop will be organised at National Art Gallery (NAG) with the title 'Creating forms and shapes in clay/plaster, fibre and wood'.

Experts in the field will conduct the workshop with both theoretical and practical work while students from various educational institutions and amateur artists are invited to participate. — APP
