PESHAWAR, April 21: Police claimed to have recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions from two vehicles and arrested two smugglers in the limits of Chamkani police station on Thursday.

“The weapons recovered from a Suzuki pick-up include 9,000 cartridges of 9mm and 40 repeaters,” DSP Shakir Bangash told a press conference at the police station.

He said that 11,000 cartridges, 20 repeaters and three pistols were recovered from another motorcar. He said that drivers of both the vehicles Sartaj Khan and Fahim were arrested on the spot.

The accused, he said, were transporting the arms and ammunitions to Punjab from tribal areas when police arrested on a tip-off.

Another pick-up vehicle stolen from Lahore was also recovered from Chamkani, he added.

The official said that police during checking stopped the vehicle on G.T. Road and the driver could not produce documents.

He was also arrested. The accused was identified as Taimur, a resident of Tarnab Farm Peshawar. He had stolen the vehicle from Lahore, he added.

Separate cases against the accused were registered at Chamkani police station.

Mr Bangash said that accused were under interrogation and efforts were being made to know the actual suppliers and their links with militants and other criminals.
