LAHORE: While Pakistan Army and Wapda maintained their domination in the men and women’s contests respectively, Army’s Liaquat Ali and Wapda’s Sumera Tayyaba emerged as the fastest man and woman after clinching the 100-metre title in the 43rd National Athletics Championships at the Punjab Stadium here on Wednesday.

Liaquat improved his own national record to win the 100-metre sprint, clocking 10.1 seconds, eclipsing the previous  10.48 seconds he had achieved in the last national championships.

Sumera, meanwhile, clocked 12.3 seconds to claim the women’s 100-metre race.

In the men’s category, Army are leading the points table with seven gold, three silver and five bronze medals, making 187 points. Wapda are placed second with two gold, six silver and four bronze medals, giving them 136 points. The Pakistan Air Force, having claimed two gold, silver and bronze medals to achieve 71 points, are at the third spot.

In women’s division, defending champions Wapda are on the top with 259 points which have been obtained through 11 gold, eight silver and two bronze medals.

Army’s women, placed second, are far behind the leaders with 38 points while Punjab are at the third spot with 36 points.
