ISLAMABAD, Feb 18: The Joint Investigation Team headed by officials of the Federal Investigation Agency, investigating the Benazir Bhutto assassination case, visited the palatial farmhouse of former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf in Chak Shahzad on Friday to deliver his arrest warrant. “Actually the investigators have to submit the charge-sheet against Musharraf before the court during hearing of the case on Saturday, therefore, they might have gone to his residence for serving the arrest warrant,” said FIA Director-General Waseem Ahmed.

The FIA sources said the investigators handed over the arrest warrant of Mr Musharraf to his guards present in the house who told the JIT members that the former president was not residing in his house these days.

The investigators visited Mr Musharraf’s farmhouse only to fulfil a legal requirement despite the fact that everyone knows that he is living in self-exile in London.

Responding to a question that has the FIA sought assistance of Interpol to serve arrest warrant to the former president, the FIA chief said: “The Interpol has so far not been contacted in this regard.”

The sources said that severe allegations had been levelled against Mr Musharraf in the charge-sheet to be presented before the court in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

“He has been accused of not providing an adequate security to former prime minister Benazir Bhutto on Dec 27, 2007,” they said. The JIT will also inform the court about details it gathered from two blackberry mobile phones of the slain PPP leader.

It has been learnt that the data of last 15 days of her life could not be retrieved because of some technical problems.
