PESHAWAR, Jan 17: The Peshawar High Court on Monday set aside conviction of a person charged with smuggling explosive material.

A single-bench comprising Justice Dost Muhammad Khan accepted an appeal filed by the convict, Gul Raz, observing that the trial was conducted without permission of the government which was mandatory under the Explosive Substance Act, 1908.

The bench observed that the acquittal of the appellant would be subjected to a retrial and directed the appellant to furnish two sureties of Rs200,000 each.
