HYDERABAD, Dec 6: The Sindh Tarraqi Pasand Party (STPP) has once again rejected proposed establishment of Zulfiqarabad city in the coastal area of Thatta district and said that the amount being utilised on the project could have been used for building model towns for flood-affected people.

Briefing journalists about proceedings of the recently held annual congress of the party here on Monday, STPP chairman Dr Qadir Magsi said that 300,000 acres of land was being acquired for the city. He warned foreign investors to refrain from investing in the project “as their investment has no guarantee.”

Dr Magsi said that the STPP congress discussed global situation with particular reference to the USA and said that the US government should play its due role to ensure world peace.

He urged the US to support democratic governments and withdraw support to dictators. He said: “The US can win Afghan and Iraq wars only through peace and not with weapons.”

He said that over-centralisation should be given up in Pakistan and its federating units should be strengthened.

The STPP chief opposed the imposition of the Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) and predicted that the tax would further increase price hike by 20 to 25 per cent.

He lambasted alleged corruption in distribution of Watan Cards among flood survivors and said that the government had earmarked Rs7 billion under the scheme but, according to him, Rs3 billion had been given to “fake” flood affected-people. PPP-SB polls:

Abdul Majeed Siyal was elected Hyderabad division president, Sham Sundar of Mirpurkhas, Ghazi Abdul Qadir Kumbhar of Sukkur and Yousuf Palijo of Larkana divisions.
