ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Tuesday that every country has its own needs and priorities in maintaining relations with the others and no country can adopt a uniform approach in this regard.

Talking to PTV, the minister said that some people have developed a habit of judging Pakistan's relations with other countries on the basis of their relations with India which is a bad tendency and this should come to an end.

He said India is a big country with a big economy and other countries including the United States have their own interests there.

As far the trade and economic ties between India and the United States are concerned, Pakistan has no concern whatsoever in this matter, the Minister said adding but it is a different situation when it comes to defence cooperation.

He said that India has a bad track record of its relations with neighboring countries and enhanced US support to that country in the area of defence would of course disturb the balance of power in the region.

He said this development would have bad impact on regional as well as global peace Kaira said that behind the scene the US support was already there for India's quest to have a permanent seat at UN Security Council and Pakistan had the knowledge of this phenomenon.

He said Pakistan remained in contact with the United States on this particular issue at various levels by highlighting India's relations with its neighbour and its brutalities against the innocent Kashmiris.

The Minister said that Pakistan has been telling the US leadership about the prevailing state of affairs in India  specially its violation human rights.

He said under the Charter of the United Nations a country guilty of such acts cannot be a permanent member of its Security Council.

Kaira said that while endorsing the Indian quest for UNSC seat, the US President has also said many things in support of Pakistan.

For example the US President has publicly stated that a stable and peaceful Pakistan is in the interest of international community as well as India itself.

The US president also expressed the desire for improved Pakistan-India relations and while saying this, he of course had the knowledge that real hurdles in the efforts to improve relations between the two countries were the issue of Kashmir, Kaira said.

He said the Indian leadership was asking the US President to declare Pakistan a terrorist or terrorism sponsoring state but it had failed.

He said the US president has also offered to play a role for Kashmir solution if India and Pakistan demanded it.

When his attention was drawn to the comments of certain analysts that US president has ignored Pakistan during his Asian tour the Minister expressed surprise over the knowledge of such critics.

Kaira said that he as well as a number of government officials and Ministers have clarified time and again that the US President wanted to pay an exclusive visit to Pakistan because in his (Obama's) opinion a stop-over visit of a few hours duration during his current tour would not be fair.

The US President has announced to visit Pakistan in the beginning of next year and it is not far off, he said.

He said that not only with the US but Pakistan is also engaged with China to have nuclear energy cooperation to meet its growing energy needs.
