JAKARTA: A man was hacked to death and two others were killed in a gang fight outside an Indonesian court on Wednesday, police and witnesses said.

Men armed with blades and guns fought in the streets near the South Jakarta district court for about an hour, police said.

An AFP reporter at the scene said she saw the body of a man with his arms apparently cut off and his head crushed.

“Three people were killed during the clash and one person was in critical condition. Three police officers were shot in their legs,” South Jakarta police chief Gatot Edi Purnomo said.

The gangs were believed to be comprised of men from North Maluku and East Nusa Tenggara provinces.

Purnomo said police were investigating whether the clash was linked to the ongoing trials of two men charged with murder during a bloody fight at a posh Jakarta nightclub.
