LAHORE, June 14 Four-year-old bay colt Black Mamba underlined his bloodline credentials in securing the feature event during the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday evening.

Flying the blue-white colours of the Jockey Club Of Pakistan (JCP) steward Javed Khalid, Black Mamba in splendid burst of speed smartly overtook front-running mare Mirana Shaheen in the home stretch to win by over three lengths in an amazing performance. Jockey Shakeel Mahmood rode the winner trained by Aleemuddin.

After the race was over, Anjum, the rider of JCP steward Munir Dar-owned bay filly Mirana Shaheen, lodged a frivolous objection against the winner for crossing in the home stretch which was rightly overruled by the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards.

When Black Mamba challenged Mirana Shaheen, the filly succumbed under the heavy impost of crushing nine stones three pounds weight while Black Mamba was carrying a light weight of eight stones in the handicap.

Blue-roan filly Lady In Grey put up a disappointing show under riding boy Mazhar Ali to finish third six lengths behind the winner.

The Raiwind Plate class V division II contested over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres was the sixth and last race of the card. The winner clocked one minute 1 2/5 seconds. The best performer of the evening was three-year-old bay filly Bandanika, who ended a two-month victory drought of stable owned by LRC steward Malik Hamid Ali Noon by winning the fourth race.

Another well-bred filly Chomsky put up a magnificent show of speed to register her maiden success by lifting the supporting event. Backed at 60-100 the filly led all the way home under rider Javed Iqbal to beat the chestnut colt Victory Star.

Two chance horses — Jal Thal and Victory Smile — were withdrawn from the third race. As a result seven-year-old bay gelding Umair Prince was installed a favourite but his odds eased up from 40-100 to 5-4 when Victory Song and Real Fighter were backed.

In spite of carrying nine stones four pounds on his back gelding Umair Prince, ridden by A. Raza, won the race by six lengths from Arzoo II. Victory Song finished off the board.

Four favourites obliged the punters in a card of six events.
