BAHAWALPUR, May 10: Eight members of a family suffered burns in an acid attack near Mauza Mubarakpur, about 50 kilometres from here, on Saturday.

It is reported that Ashiq had an altercation with his brother Sadaqat Ali over a monetary dispute. Sadaqat, with the help of his accomplices Javed alias Pervaiz Alam and Sajid, allegedly threw acid on Ashiq, his wife Nasrin, sons Rehan and Amir, and daughters Reema, Ayesha, Samrin and Naushin. The injured were rushed to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur.

Doctors in the surgical ward described their condition as serious.

Naushera Jadid police have registered and arrested the accused.

LOCAL HOLIDAY: The district council on Saturday passed a resolution, declaring May 25 a local holiday to pay homage to the late Bahawalpur amir, Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi.

Meanwhile, the officials approved various development projects, including construction of six class rooms at the postgraduate college on the Baghdad Road.

DIRECTIVE: District Coordination Officer Imran Ahmad on Saturday directed the EDO health to strictly follow the rules while purchasing medicines for government dispensaries.

Presiding over a meeting of EDOs, he directed the EDO education to adopt a transparent policy in purchasing furniture. He also asked him to serve an explanation notice on the deaf and dumb school principal against whom there were many complaints.
