KARACHI, Dec 5 Stage is set for observing Sindhi cap day on Sunday when the activists of the PPP and other organisations are expected to stage rallies across Sindh.
The traditional cap has become a hot issue after the anchorperson of a private TV's talk show recently criticized President Asif Ali Zardari for wearing the cap during a visit to Afghanistan.
The issue was picked up by a popular Sindhi TV channel which projected the criticism as an insult to Sindhi culture and called for observing Sindhi cap day on Dec 6.
It led to mass circulation of SMS supporting the call. Soon the Pakistan People's Party jumped into fray and started organising rallies on the issue even before Dec 6.
On the other hand, the issue has led to an unprecedented rise in the purchase of the cap to the benefit of sellers and makers of the cap.
The cap with fine embroidery of geometrical patterns is prepared by housewives in villages and also by prisoners who learn the skill at jails.
On Saturday on the eve of the Sindhi cap day, rallies attended by people wearing Sindhi were staged in different parts of the province.
