LAHORE, April 16: The Lahore High Court chief justice on Tuesday disposed of a petition against possible sacking of law officers at the Advocate General Punjab office by the caretaker government.

Newly appointed Advocate General Shahid Karim stated before the court that he would act in accordance with law and shall also pay due regard to other members of his team who were his colleagues in the profession and his friends.

The chief justice disposed of the petition in the light of the undertaking by the principal law officer of the province.

Former secretary of Lahore High Court Bar Association Rana Asadullah Khan had filed the petition and submitted that the caretaker provincial law minister had hinted at drastic changes in the office of advocate general.

He said the statement of the law minister was beyond the mandate of caretaker set-up as it could not remove or even otherwise appoint any person to the advocate general office.

The petitioner said AGP office had been declared a special institution and was no more attached to the law department. He said the matters relating to appointment, removal, transfer, leaves, fees of the AGP office had been excluded from the business of the law department.

On previous hearing, the court had issued a stay order against the possible termination of the law officers from service.
