LAHORE, April 6: District administrations of Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib have been directed to enhance security measures in and around thousands of polling stations in the Lahore division in order to assist the Election Commission of Pakistan in holding peaceful and transparent elections.

“Though we are trying our best to assist the ECP to hold elections in peaceful and transparent manner, it is the responsibility of the DCO and the IGP to beef up security measures in this regard,” Commissioner Jawad Rafique Malik said while presiding over a meeting to review election-related arrangements here on Saturday.

He said it had been decided in principal to monitor every sensitive polling station through CCTV cameras while the police department should also depute additional force at such polling stations.

Mr Malik said that special instructions had been issued to the officials concerned in this regard.

He said special monitoring teams had also been constituted to check the dispatch and receipt of polling material by the polling staff.

The commissioner directed the DCOs to remain vigilant and implement code of conduct introduced by the ECP.

CASES: Town municipal administrations got 10 FIRs lodged with police stations against those violating the dengue regulations here on Saturday.

According to a daily dengue surveillance report, special teams constituted by the TMA got registered one FIR each in Wagah and Data Ganj Bakhsh, five in Ravi and three in Samanabad towns.

PEACE COMMITTEES: The City District Government of Lahore has decided to activate peace committees which were constituted at district and town level.

The CDGL has also sought holding of monthly meetings of committees on a regular basis.

“The ulema are should cooperate with the CDGL in promoting peace, inter-religious harmony and faith besides introducing a culture of tolerance as per the teachings of Islam,” CDGL Administrator/DCO Noorul Amin Mengal said while presiding over a meeting here on Saturday.

WALK: The CDGL will organize an anti-dengue walk from Racecourse to Siddique Trade Centre on Sunday (today) in order to create awareness among the masses about precautionary measures of dengue.

According to a press release, government officials, students and civil society activists will participate in the walk.
