ISLAMABAD: The chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Mr Altaf Hussain, has said there is no Pakhtun-Mohajir conflict in Karachi.

Addressing the party’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa workers’ convention in the federal capital on Sunday, he said both the communities were migrants in Karachi and were being poisoned against each other by feudal lords.

“Today I apologise to all Pakhtuns if I have committed any wrong against them. And in case Pakhtuns have committed any wrong against Mohajirs then I request the Mohajirs to pardon their brethren. Today I claim that there is no Pakhtun-Mohajir conflict in Karachi,” he said.

He said the MQM would hold two large meetings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and strengthen its roots in the province in order to defeat the forces that had brought the Urdu-speaking and Pakhtuns to the brink of war in Karachi.

Amid slogans in Pashto in support of the MQM, Mr Hussain said Pakhtuns and Mohajirs were both vanguards of revolution but the feudal and hereditary political leaders were creating a fissure between them to stop the change.

“From today, the MQM would focus on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and members of its coordination committee and organisers should make preparations for the coming election. We will field our candidates in all constituencies in the country, including the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).”He said his struggle for coming into power was neither for his family nor for any specific part of the country but for the entire middle class. Real change in the country was possible only if the Pakhtuns supported the MQM in the coming election, he said.

He said people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were facing hardship because of the war on terror and the MQM would soon bring peace to the province.

He claimed that the new name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been made possible because of his support and said the political parties there should put an end to the existing colonial system in the province.

He said seeds of hatred between people of Hazara and the rest of Pakhtuns were being sown under a plan so that the rulers could divide the people and rule them but the MQM would unite the oppressed people and launch a decisive struggle against the prevailing mindset of political leaders.
