LAHORE, Jan 26: Protesters blocked a Badami Bagh road for at least two hours after three people, including a teenaged girl, died in result of a horrific road crash involving a water tanker and a motorcycle rickshaw on Ring Road on Saturday.

Quoting witnesses, Badami Bagh police said the driver apparently lost control over a speeding Water and Sanitation Agency tanker and hit the rickshaw near Batti Chowk.

The rickshaw driver identified as Hafeez, passengers Ms Siddiqa (55) and her granddaughter Anam (13) of Rehman Street, Khokhar Road, suffered fatal wounds, and succumbed to their injuries at hospital.

The tanker driver fled the scene. Police impounded the tanker.

Heirs of female victims placed the bodies on Aamir Road, lodged a protest and demanded stern action against the absconding driver.

Police have registered a case against the driver and started investigation.

MURDER: A 38-year-old jail employee was shot at and killed by three people at his doorstep in Ichhra Shopping Centre early on Saturday.

Ichhra police said Muhammad Akram answered the door bell around 12:30am and was shot at by two men and a woman who fled the scene.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital later. Police said Akram was driver of the Camp Jail. Police handed over the body to the family after autopsy, registered a case on the complaint of victim’s brother Arshad and began investigation into the blind shooting.

ROBBERIES: Robbers plundered cash and valuables worth Rs2.4 million in three major hits in the city on Saturday.

Three robbers barged into the house of Zahid Baig in Jamia Street in Naulakha police limits, held all family members at gunpoint and took away cash and valuables worth Rs1.6 million. Two robbers approached Abid and his family in Bilal Park in Sanda police precincts and snatched cash and valuables worth Rs600,000.

Two robbers waylaid Zeeshan and his family at Chandni Chowk in Quaid-i-Azam Industrial Estate police limits and deprived them of cash and valuables worth Rs200,000.
