KOCHI: Former Pakistan skipper Ramiz Raja feels that time has come for Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to quit T20 captaincy after his side’s string of losses so that some young player learns the ropes of leadership.

“I expect him to possibly exit T20 arena gracefully. Let other develop the team. Let other young captains come through,” Ramiz said.

“The subcontinent is stats-based cricket economy where fans look at the records. They do not look at how many matches India and Pakistan have won,” he told a television channel.

“I feel to arrest the slide, all good administrators and all good captains take tough decisions.”

Another former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram said Dhoni should continue to bat at number six and should not come up the batting order at number four. Asked if Dhoni should come up the batting order, Wasim said: “I don’t think so. I feel, he is good at number six. If he come out at number four, he may not get runs.

“Remember, he keeps [wickets]. Keeping is most difficult in cricket. He has to sit and stand for every delivery for 300 balls and expecting him to come to bat at number four is not humanly possible,” he said.

On Ishant Sharma, Wasim said he was not impressed with the pacer’s performance in the last two years. “I think his pace has come down a bit,” said Wasim.—Agencies

Mehran, Dhoni is somebody the likes of which we have not had in the Indian team ever.As a captain, he is bigger than Merchant, Pataudi, Gavaskar, Kapil Dev or Tendulkar. He has come to the crease so often when the higher order has collapsed and saved the day with his temperament and nerves of steel. He is all raw talent and his his helicopter shot does not exist in the cricket manuals. He is self taught and is a great leader. All those baying for his head don't know what they are talking about. A Railways' ticket collector from Jharakhand who was discovered by chance by the Railways cricket coach! It is a great story of how cricket has spread to small towns like Ranchi where he is a rockstar now with an income of over Rs.100 crores a year! When finally his biography is written, it will inspire generations of kids to take up cricket for a living!

yeah.. a captain that won a fixed world cup match... by the way I agree with you guys after all Dhoni is all that indian team has got , should try playing him alone at all eleven no.s and oh by the way the indian cricketers, commentators and Tv anchors all value the Pakistani seasoned opinion of Cricket stars, after all its a country that produces stars MashAllah.

Thanks but no thanks. Unlike pakistan we are not used to of having 5 captains in our team. We are all behind dhoni and either he is our captain in all formats or he is not captain at all.

@Yasin, this news has not apeared in the Indian media. You may please ask Pakistani media to not to talk to ex Pakistani cricketers. That's your choice. However, there is no place for Pakistani players , both current and ex in India. The earlier they understand this fact, the better it is for them.

By the way just for the record, and I am Pakistani, but i think Ramiz is dead wrong. Dhoni is a very explosive batsman and is very consistent with his hitting, he is exactly what Indias T20 team needs.

This is what Gavasker said recently and I quote “It was the approach of Misbah that cost Pakistan the game, much as it did in the semi-finals of the World Cup two years back. Pakistan may have won the one-day series 2-1, but if they are to carry on winning then some serious thought needs to be applied to Misbah’s position in the team. He is not getting any younger and it was his dropped catch in Chennai that allowed Dhoni to go on to a century,”

Dhoni is a star and I don't believe there is any other player in Indian team currently to be the captain. He is the only one who can handles pressure and the rest of the team is quite immature. I felt really sorry for him in Pakistan Vs India series because the whole team relied on him only. He is one of the best cricketers in my view. P.S. I am a Pakistani and a crazy cricket lover..
