Umar Akmal out of BBL

Published November 20, 2012

SYDNEY, Nov 20: Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) has shown the door to Pakistan middle-order batsman Umar Akmal on Tuesday for not honouring the full contract with his team Sydney Sixers.

The development came just a day after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had revoked its decision to stop the players from featuring in the tournament. The board, reversing its decision on Monday permitted the three players — Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal and Umar Akmal — to feature in the tournament in Australia.

However, Umar’s team Sydney Sixers who had asked him to feature in at least five matches during the BBL, told him to leave because the right-hander could only stay for one or two matches which was not acceptable to the Aussie side.—Agencies
