Iraq attacks kill three

BAGHDAD: Attacks north of Baghdad killed at least three people on Saturday, including two soldiers gunned down at a checkpoint, officials said.

The two soldiers were killed and three others wounded when gunmen opened fire on their checkpoint in the town of Taji, just north of the capital, early Saturday, security and medical officials said.

Another man was killed in a bomb attack on his car near the main northern city of Mosul, officials said.

The latest deaths came after figures released on Thursday showed a sharp decline in violence last month, with the number of people killed the lowest since June.
