The Transparency International’s report claimed that the PIA’s administration was involved in financial irregularities over the agreement of renting the aircrafts and the engines.

ISLAMABAD: Taking notice of the financial and administrative irregularities in the operations of Pakistan International Airline (PIA), the Supreme Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Chairman of the national carrier Rao Qamar Suleman, DawnNews reported.

The apex court took notice of the situation after a petition was moved by the Transparency International (TI).

The TI had submitted a comprehensive report explaining the details of the irregularities in national airline’s operation.

The TI’s report claimed that the PIA’s administration was involved in financial irregularities over the agreement of renting the aircrafts and the engines.

The report also claimed that because of administrative inefficiency, the national carrier suffered the loss of PKR 410 million due to cancellation of 1200 flights between August 2011- November 2011.

The apex court said in its notification “when the PIA was asked to respond to the TI’s petition, its management denied of any type of irregularities.”

“The court is issuing a notice to the PIA Chairman because it is a matter of greater public interest,” the apex court’s notification added.

The hearing was subsequently adjourned till the second week of October.
