SIALKOT, Aug 10: The Pakistan People’s Party-led government will soon provide solar energy tubewells to farmers to pull the country’s agriculture sector out of the existing energy crisis.

Federal Minister for National Regulation and Services Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said this on Friday while addressing participants in a ceremony held at Kotli Loharan near Sialkot after distributing keys of tractors among the local farmers after a draw held by Zarai Taraqiyati Bank Limited (ZTBL).

She said the dream of agricultural development and prosperity could never be realised without following modern trends in the field.

She said the farmers would soon get the solar energy tube-wells under the government’s scheme, adding Pakistan recently signed a pact with China for the purpose.

The minister said through introducing the solar energy tube-wells the government wanted to boost agriculture sector and put it on the road to self reliance.

Dr Awan said the government was fully aware of the problems confronted by the farmers and was making all-out sincere efforts for their solution.

The early and easy provision of advanced farm machinery, quality seed and fertilisers at subsidised rates was top priority of the PPP government, she added. — Correspondent
