ISLAMABAD, Aug 10: Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday accepted the bail application of a Chinese national currently detained at Adiala Jail on the charges of manufacturing and selling liquor.

The Chinese national Sunqing Guo was running a restaurant and guest house at sector F-8/4 and was arrested on July 8.

According to the FIR registered against Guo in Margalla police station, the accused had set up a distillery at the guest house. As many as 324 bottles of liquor were also recovered from Guo’s possession.

Muzammil Chaudhry, counsel  for Guo, told the court that Margalla police fabricated a case against his client under section 3-4 of enforcement of Hadd Ordinance 1979, adding that being a non-Muslim Guo could not be booked under this law.

He said Guo has been sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand as the police did not need his custody for the purpose of investigation, therefore, the accused might be released on bail.

Raja Shakeel Abbasi, standing counsel for the federation on the other hand opposed the grant of bail to the accused.

He said the accused was involved in immoral activities and was illegally producing liquor at his place.
