HYDERABAD, July 11: A power breakdown hit Hyderabad and its adjoining areas on Tuesday night when electricity supply was disrupted because of a fault in 500-KV line between Dadu to Jamshoro.

The power outage from 1130pm to 4am forced people to pass sleepless night on roofs of their houses. Some spent time outside their houses while old people and patients stayed homes.

Transmission line which supplies power to 500 KV grid station had developed a fault. Later it caused tripping in 500KV grid station and other grid stations. The fault then travelled to other grid stations of Hala Naka, Tando Mohammad Khan and NTPS.

The city had first drizzle of the season on Tuesday night but it did not bring any relief to people.

According to Chief Operating Officer of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) Muhammad Bachal Leghari, National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) Limited had failed to supply power to its two grid stations due to some technical faults in the system.

He said power supply to Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Umerkot, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar and Sanghar had been affected because of the fault for over two hours and then officials of Hesco took two to three hours to restore the supply. He said that the Hesco generally received 132KV supply for its distribution network.

The power breakdown also hit water supply.

An official of the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) said prolonged power breakdown had badly hit water supply in the city because its reservoirs could not receive water due to the outage.

Met office recorded 3.2 mm rains with thunder and lightning on Tuesday. It forecasts light rains with thunder and lightning for the next 24 hours in Hyderabad. Temperature was 37 degrees centigrade maximum and 26 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
