MUMBAI: Former Pakistan captain and senior PCB official Intikhab Alam who is in Malaysia these days to assess the facilities for holding the series against Australia later this year, said it was too early to comment whether the matches will be held in Kuala Lumpur.

Speaking exclusively from his hotel room on Monday evening, while enjoying dinner with Mahinda Vallipuram, the vice-president of the Malaysia Cricket Association (MCA), Intikhab said: “I visited the Kinrara Stadium here today which is impressive while the other facilities are also very good.”

“I did visit a few hotels to see the players’ accommodation and few more hotels will be visited tomorrow.”

Intikhab met the MCA president on Monday and will meet more officials on Tuesday.

Kinrara Academy Oval is a cricket stadium located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in the suburbs of Puchong.

The ground hosted all the seven matches in the 2006-07 DLF Cup, played between Australia, India and the West Indies. All of the matches played then were One-day Internationals.

Despite having a capacity of 4,000 at the arena here, only a few hundred spectators turned up to watch the DLF Cup matches.

The venue, if chosen by the PCB and approved by Cricket Australia (CA) to play in August, will still require approval from the ICC. “The permission will be sought by the PCB and not the Malaysia Cricket Association (MCA),” Intikhab added.

The ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit people will also be kept in the loop, it is learnt here. Intikhab is scheduled to leave for Dubai on Wednesday.
